My blog is a year old today…
I first started blogging on October 13, 2007, a whole year has passed and my focus has totally changed. My original intent was for my blog to be read by my children and their families, so they could experience what Mom was creating…
My daughter and her family live over 3000 miles away, and I thought this would be a great way for her to see what Mom was creating. Now sons really don’t care about what Mama’s doing, or at least mine doesn’t.He was married in May of 2007, and has a very busy life with his new family, besides he has seen me create stuff, since he was just a baby.
Then there is my un-married daughter, who lives close by, she can’t miss what I’m up too, it’s always sitting around the house. But I gave them all my blogger address, hoping that maybe they would discover something they didn’t know about me.
Well, it didn’t take long before I decided that I would post to see if they had ever visited my blog. Yes, I was bad, I posted all three girls Christmas gifts on my blog, before Christmas. If they just logged into my blog they would have seen their gifts. I also told them all on Christmas day what I had done. Do you think anything has changed….No, they still haven’t made the first visit to my blog.
My focus, hasn’t really changed…I just now blog for myself, my customers and my friends. I love the ability to share what I’m creating and what I’ve learned.

Jill, I feel your pain.... I've done a couple family oriented blogs and finally gave up. I guess they aren't in the same space as we are! LOL Never fear, you are cultivating an international "family" and "we" are interested in what you are doing!
Congrats on the anniversary of your blog!
Jill, while your entry is sad in some senses it is probably true for so many of us that blog around what it is we do.
I'm not sure what, if anything, we can do about it.
In my case I have to honestly say that I don't think I/we have publicized our blog or Etsy store address to family, including the in-laws, cousins, etc. much less our own children and oldest grandchild.
I will say that our daughter did buy a bracelet from our Etsy site so I'd better give credit on that score.
Anyhow, best of luck on your 1st anniversary and may there be many, many more! Ken (Magpiedreams)
I know exactly how you feel. Good idea but everyone seems to busy for family. Not the way it use to be.
Hi Wezz
I hate to say, but it is nice to know that you to have a family that doesn't read your blog either. I guess you and I will have to continue to read each others blogs....
Hey Ken
I post their gifts again this year, well I have actually already posted three, and tell them again this Christmas what I've done. Maybe in 2009 my family will read my blog.
That is too funny! If that was a test I guess they failed huh??
You surely aren't alone...my immediate family doesn't read but I have a few cousins and aunts that do...they are spread across the country. It certainly is a great way of sharing everyday life. I guess you have to try it and then you get hooked. Until my jewelry...I never cared about blogging but I have come to enjoy it.
Best to you,
D

Aww, My family doesn't read my blog either. I have to force them to subscribe by email!
Julia
Not only do they not read my blog, they don't even reply to my emails. getting a little frustrated with all of them. Best not to get on Moma's bad side....
OK. So maybe I don't read all the time, but I do check in on occassion. I don't blog myself, and don't believe I have ever posted a response on anyone else's blog - including my husband's. Now that you have outed me, under the header "My family doesn't read my blog ..." I must point out again how wrong you are. Served!
"My Family Doesn't Read My Blog", boy was I wrong! Guess I owe my not so "disgraced daughter" a big apology. I miss your so very much...
Love,
Mama
Dear Jill,
My family doesn't read my blogs, too... Is because everything that I created and things need to share they're already knew it lol!!
I hope could write something about myself and my personal but sometimes it's really hard to express on my blogs... maybe I am a person who don't show off myself. Maybe one day I should blog about myself...
p/s: Jill, I believe your family will read your blog one day & they'll find another wonderful part of grandma and mama as well ^^
Best regards,
Kelly
Hey, I can relate Jill... family's like that and our efforts have to be for ourSelves. I've recently gone through the same realizations and just wanted to say thanks for sharing. We have each other and our families love us, even if they don't read us. lol. xoxox
Hugs you.
Susan.
